Khumbu is a region of northeastern Nepal on the Nepalese side of Mount Everest. It is part of the Solukhumbu District, which in turn is part of the Sagarmatha Zone.
The Everest Region also known as Khumbu Region is popular for the world’s top and highest mountain the Mount Everest. It is protected as the Sagarmatha National Park in 1979 and included in the UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site by the Government of Nepal. It is one of the best and mostly visited trekking, hiking and climbing destination for the adventure lover, trekkers and visitor who want to explore the real and amazing Himalayas experience. Apart from the snow capped mountains, deep gorges, glaciers and gigantic rocks, the region is popular for the legendary hospitality of the local Sherpa people. The region is the home to the musk deer, Derow, Ghoral and Thar and the national bird Lophophoros “Danphe” and the national flower “Laligurans”. In Nepali language Mount Everest is called as “Sagarmatha” which is the highest peak of the world with the altitude of 8848m from the sea level.
Everest region trekking makes everybody self pompous because being near and around to the highest part of the world provides a sense of bliss and glorified achievement. Everest Base Camp Trek, Everest Panorama Trek, Gokyo valley trek, jiri kalapatthar trek are some popular trekking trails in this region which varies from 4/5 days to a month long. Most of the trek starts from the Namche Bazzar, the capital of Khumbu Region and can be reach within 45 minutes from the Kathmandu to Lukla flight by airstrip. Two ancient Buddhist monasteries in Tengboche and Pangboche are the main attractions. The best season for the Everest Region Trek is October-November, March-May, December-February. The region offers some easy classical trek, moderate, medium and hard trekking grades.
